A morning without warm, freshly made rolls? Not at all possible. On the weekends, a lot of individuals now grab pretzels or croissants in addition to the traditional wheat roll. However, very few people are aware of the calorie content of different baked items.
The Society for Consumer Research (GfK) estimates that each household in the world consumes 56.5 kg of bread and other baked goods annually. Popular breads include toast, mixed bread, and wheat rolls.
They can, however, be worn on the hips.
What is the calories count of a bakery bread roll?
The average bakery wheat roll contains 291 calories per 100 grams. That comes to 160 calories (55 grams) per roll. For the same weight, a wholemeal roll has about 128 calories.
How much does a normal bun weigh?
In Countries there are no specifications as to how heavy a roll must be, only an upper limit of 249 grams. Since the average weight of rolls is not recorded in any database, we looked at various frozen and baked products and calculated an approximate average weight.
Wheat rolls weigh around 55 grams, but the range is from 30 to 90 grams. Rye rolls weigh around 70 grams, rolls with mixed dough weigh around 75 grams and multi-grain rolls weigh 90 grams.
How many calories does a light roll have?
There are 291 kilocalories in one hundred grams of a wheat bread roll. A roll weighing 55 grams provides 160 kilocalories. If you add chocolate spread or fatty sausage to the mix, the delicious pastry quickly turns into a calorie bomb.
Which bun has the fewest calories?
No type of bread roll is really low in calories. Some variants just have fewer calories than others. Wholemeal rolls have the fewest calories with 232 kilocalories (kcal) per hundred grams, followed by spelled (234 kcal), oats (246 kcal), buckwheat (255 kcal), mixed wheat rolls (257 kcal), multigrain (267 kcal) and rye (267 kcal).
But the weight of the bun is also important. Although rye rolls have fewer calories per hundred grams than wheat rolls, they are larger on average and therefore higher in calories than the wheat version.
Which rolls are good for losing weight?
If you want to lose weight, you have to consume less energy (kilocalories) than your body uses. Which foods this energy comes from is, in principle, of secondary importance. However, there are foods that fill you up faster and for longer than others and thus help you eat less overall.
When it comes to baked goods, these are mainly wholemeal rolls: they contain a lot of fiber compared to white flour rolls. These are carbohydrates that the body cannot utilize and therefore fill you up in the long term.
Toast bread, on the other hand, is less recommended because it – especially in the light version – contains little fiber, so hunger returns after a short time. The supposedly light toast is by no means low in calories: a 30 gram slice already contains 80 kilocalories. The whole grain version has 68 kilocalories.
Also be careful with bread variants with misleading names such as five-grain or fitness bread. These mixed products made from different types of flour and grains sound promising, but they say little about the quality and ingredients of the product. In such cases, it is worth taking a closer look at the nutritional information on the packaging.
In any case, important: the choice of surface. Whether the bread meal is balanced and healthy also depends largely on whether it is topped with low-fat ham or spread with nut nougat cream instead.
If you want to lose weight, you should also avoid croissants at breakfast. Although they are tasty and look tempting, they contain a lot of fat and sugar. This is also reflected in their energy balance. A normal croissant (60 grams) already contains a whopping 308 kilocalories.
